The cluster of houses that make up Piano di Collecchia Alta

Casa Gabriella is a two bedroom, recently restored, 16th century apartment with 1600 square feet of living space on the upper story of the central structure you see in the picture on the right. It features great views of the valley and hillsides out the front, and offers views of a small kitchen garden out the back. There is a small Kiwi arbor out back. Casa Gabriella is suitable for four people.

The large living room contains a couch, a reading area with two armchairs, and an antique cafe table with space for four--for eating or just playing cards.

The single bath is enormous for an Italian house. It contains both a full tub and independent walk-in shower. There is also a clothes washer.

A balcony wraps around the back (north) side of the house and continues on the west side, perfect for eating, lounging, or watching the sunset.

The Kitchen: Traditional Materials and Modern Convenience

The kitchen includes a semi-professional 5 burner gas stove, with a large double burner in the center for that extra heat you crave. The surfaces are marble (the local material), the cabinets in chestnut (also local). It has been restored as a traditional Tuscan kitchen with modern appliances, including a dishwasher, hidden away behind chestnut doors. a chestnut range hood, and marble sink.

The kitchen was updated in 2004.

Bedrooms

Casa Gabriella Bedroom

The master bedroom is furnished in the Tuscan style, with antique guardaroba and marble-topped chest of drawers. A "letto matrimonio" or double bed completes the master bedroom. Views are of the rear gardens and from the window you see in the picture, you'll see the village of Piano de Collecchia spread out before you.

The smaller bedroom has two single beds that can be pushed together to make a larger bed. Both bedrooms open onto the balcony.

Both bedrooms have recently been painted.

About Piano di Collecchia

The village of Piano di Collecchia is in the Province of Fivizzano, in the Lunigiana region of Tuscany. The closest larger village is Sericciolo, a five minute drive (or 25 minute walk) to the west. Sericciolo has a supermarket, a ristorante/pizzaria which is very popular, a bar/pasticceria with great pastries in the morning, and other small shops. What you'll find here is an immensely beautiful landscape with abundant hiking trails, interesting food and food festivals, and a relaxed, almost tourist-free atmosphere you won't find in southern Tuscany. You also won't find vast museums full of Rennaisance art. Casa Gabriella is recommended for folks who've "done" Tuscany, and already partaken of its charms. The Lunigiana, not traditionally a part of Tuscany, is a mix of Ligurian, Tuscan, and Reggio Emilian traditions.
